HISTORY OF
CHAPTER FOR YEAR Sept. 1933 TO June 1934
ALPHA-ETA
Alpha-Eta Chapter started the year 1933-34 under a great
handicap, having graduated fifteen of its most outstanding members
in June, 1933. This Class of "33" was probably the most outstanding
class in Alpha-Eta's history, boasting many outstanding men and
campus leaders.
It did not take the chapter long to revover from this loss.
She returned thirty-six members, and under the very efficient gui-
dance of Charles Andrews and with the cooperation of the other
officers she launched the new year. It was a year destined to be one
of conspicious achievement.
When the foa had cleared from the bitter "battle field" of the
rushing campaign Alpha-Eta found that she had pledged a very prom-
ising group of freshmen. The class was composed of: Gregory McDonald
Norman Browne, Simpson Penny, John Currier, George Avent, James Baker
Jack Merrell, Stanton Vickery, Edward Squire, Jack Green, Tolbert Rou,
Frank McCraw, Tweed McMullen, Bill Jones, Arthur Jordan, Sidney Smith
John Snively, Buddy Smith, and Dunning Bright.
The Chapter robl was increased early in October with the
addition of three new initiates : Don Walker, William Chase, and Wm.
H. Fuller.
During the football season Alpha-Eta boasted three varsity
men. Chase was by farr the most outstanding ball carrier on Florida's
unusually good eleven. Moye performed beautifully at right end, and
Bryan played a consistent game at guard. Chase shows promise of
developing into an All-Southern, possibly an All-American, player
before his career is ended, as he is only a sophomore.
The chapter was also well represented upon the Baby Gator
eleven by Charles Root. He shows great promise of developing into
a star on future Florida teams.
Florida started off its football season with an entirely new
coaching staff. The Pikes were also represented on this staff by
Charles G. Lavin, who was in charge of the "B" squad.
As the year settled down to the routine swing, the members of
the Chapter and pledges turned their attention to many fields of
extra-curricular activity. Jack Peters was elected to one of the
most important offices of the student body, Chancelor of the Honor
Court. Several were very active in publications, and many in other
fields of campus activity.
In a social way, Alpha-Eta had another banner year, being well rep-
resented in all the major social societies on the campus. Freshmen
were pledged into the Serpent and Theta Ribbon Societies, and into
Bacchus. Brothers Adkins, Howard, and Fuller were added to the
pledge roster of LSApache. Brothers Fosgate, Chase, and Hinson were
pledged to Pirates.
