PAGE 1 HISTORY OF Alpha Eta CHAPTER FOR YEAR 19 48 TO 1949 A growing university, having boomed into a post- war enrollment of over 10,000 students, saw the bonds of Alpha Eta Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha strengthen and enrich themselves even more throughout the highly successful 1948 Fall Semester. And as the enrollment of the miversity grew, so grew Alpha Eta's enrollment. Over one hundred brothers, anxious to get started after a summer's layoff, packed their dust-laden bags, threw a kiss toward home, and set their sights for Gainesville and another year of fraternity affilia- tion with Pi Kappa Alpha. Arriving a week early, the first work of the chapter was that of preparing for that all-important phase of fraternity activity -- rush week. Trimming vines, pruning hedges, mowing grass, painting -- came first; then, planning the rush functions, correspondence, back-slapping, cigar smoking, pointing out the advantages of Pi Kappa Alpha --- followed. All blended into a week of rushing which saw Pi Kappa Alpha get as good, or better, results as any of her twenty-one competitors. For on September 29 the chapter announced the election of over thirty new pledges, excluding those re-pledged, which, in all, increased the total number of pledges to well over fifty. Credit for the success of rush week cannot be restricted to one or two brothers alone, but to the chapter as a whole, which worked diligently in collaboration with the Rush Captains of the various cities in the state.
