CHAPTER for year

TO

The Fall rushing season was preceded by a rush tour of
the state and a House Party at Daytona Beach. The rush tour
was composed of six active men who visited the key cities
throughout the state in order to stimulate interest among the
alumi and to give the rushees a preview of the chapter at
Gainesville. The House Party which was held at the Riviera
Hotle in Daytona Beach over Labor Day weekend was always
was the climax of summer rushing.
Rush week started on September 11th and was closed on
September 13th with the pledging of thirty five men which
peaked the number of pledges among all the fraternities.
Chapter officers for the first semester were;
Billy Tomaselle
S.M.C.
Charlie Boyd
I.M.C.
Billy Zachry
S.C.
Babe Bartlett
House Manager
Halph Williams
Dining Room Manager
Robb Hasencamp
Social Treasurer
The following were also elected as officers of the
pledge class:
Dave Walker
President
Bill Champlin
Vice-president
J.R. Crenshaw
Secretary
Charlie Kephart
Treasurer
The chapter was most fortunate this year in obtaining
Mrs. Emily F. Siviter as House Mother. Marly in October a
reception was given in her honor that she might become ac-
quainted with members of the faculty and other house mothers.
On December 14th our annual Christmas Party was held
for the under-prililiged children of Gainesville. Through
the cooperation of Preacher Cordon about sixty five children
were entertained.
Alpha Eta celebrated the 72nd anniversary of the found-
ing of Pi Kappa Alpha at the Thomas Hotel March21st. The
banquet was postponed from the first of the month in order
that we might be able to secure Dr. Freeman H. Hart of
Hamden Sydney University, our National President, to deliver
the principal address.
On May 10th the twenty sewenth consecutive Mother's
celebration was held. This celebration is recognised as the
oldest unbroken tradition on the University of Florida
campus. The celebration was unique this year because it was
conducted entirely by members of the chapter. Speeches were
made by the officers and entertainment was handeled by mem-
bers of the active chapter and pledges.
Other social events during the year included Fall Frolics,
Homecoming Celebration, Military Ball, and House Parties.
