HISTORY OF AlphaaEta
CHAPTER FOR YEAR Sept, 19 36ᵀ⁰ June 1937
The festivities aand spirite of the returning
brothers were shaddowed this year by the loss of a '35
pledge and brother - Ed Story, who died in the latter
part of August.
Prior to the closing of school in 1936, Alpha
Eta elected the following men to serve for the coming
semester; Billy Chase-S.M.C., Roscoe Skipper-I,M.C.,
Billy Goza-ThC., John Clarke-S.C., Boyd Harris-M.S.,
Charles Betts-M.C., James Moody-Housemanager, John
Courier-Steward.
Again Alpha-Eta crashed thru with numerous
fine summer rushing activities, featuring dances banquets
picnics, and smokers in every Pike town. Most noteworthy
were the activities of actives and alumni in Jacksonville,
Orlando, Sanford, Clearwater, and Pensacola. All rushing
efforts were brought to a close by the state-wide House-
Party held every year at Daytona Beach, and the chapter
made ready for the University rush-week program.
Due to this new consciousness that has taken
the fraturnity towards better rushing, Alpha-Eta, with
the able assistance of Brother Skipper as rush Chair-
man, again pledged more than her share of highby rushees,
twenty-six in number. They were: Billy Thomas-Gainesville;
Benny McLean, Bartow; Babe Bartlett, Orlando; Eddie
Eason, Conn.; Jimmy Moore, Plant City; Ralph Williams,
Orlando; Harry Bower, Orlando; Jerry Lincoln, Sarasota;
Boopy Larent, Madison; Simm Smith, Lakeland; Russell
Frink, Jacksonville; Charlie Boyd, Jacksonville; Joe
Smith, Watley, Ga.; Stanley Parent, Tallahasee; Norman
Smith, Tampa; Buddy Albright; Rob Hazencamp, Clearwater;
Joe Moore, Clearwater; Kirby Timms, Pensacola; Gearge
White, Pensacola; Bill Fleming, Pensacola; Bob McCrary,
Graceville; Aubry Martin, Dunelin; Clarke Goff, Pittsburg,
Pa.; Slatter Smith, Greencove Springs; George Owens, Tenn.
At their first meeting the new pledges chose
from their number the following officiers: Benny McLean-
Pres., Billy Thomas- Vice-pres., Charlie Byod- Treas.,
and Rob Hazencamp- Sec. The pledge club was under the
direction of Burwell Howard.
Alpha-Eta, as in the past, was leading in
social and campus activities for the year. Her decorations
for Homecoming received second prize, and her inter-
tainment for Alumni and Dads was conceeded first place.
A definate forward was made at this time in uniting and
bringing together the Alumni and Activieses thru making
the week-end a real Homingcoming for them. This function
was equaled by the annual Dinner Dance Given by the
Jacksonville Alumni at the Timmaquana Country Club after
the Fborida-Gorgia game.
