Alpha Eta Chapter History Report, 1930-1931
GENERAL OFFICE
RECEIVED APR 30 1931
History
MAY any 4 1931
One of the ANS'D largest chapters in the history of Alpha-Eta returned to
school for the 1930 fall session at the University of Florida last September,
and the first chapter meeting of the year was held on the night of September 12.
The following Monday, September 15, rushing season was in full swing. Under
the interfraternity conference rules on the campus, no pledging could take place
until after 9:00 P.M. of September 17.
Fourteen members of the freshman class were selected by Alpha-Eta and
were proudly displaying their newly acquired pledge buttons after the excitement
of the hour had passed. Within the next few days three other names had been
added to the pledge roster and the pledge group totalled seventeen of the new-
comers to the campus. The group included: Frank Fee, Joe obinson, Thomas
Feaster, Fred Bender, Claude Herndon, Claud Sims, Terry Patterson, Merle Bowlin,
Charles Beggs, James Fleming, Lowe Willis, Braden Ball, Harry Duncan, Charles
Lavin, George Rollins, Nevitt Cook, and James Higgins. As the year passed new
names were added to the rool. They were: Richard Davis, Earl Lupfer, Fred
Lawrence, George Smith, and Arno Langford.
When the activities of the early fall days were past history and the
routine of school and classes had settled on the brothers, the chapter set about
where it had left off the previous spring and continued the work of keeping
Alpha-Eta the foremost fraternity at Florida. Foothall season was in progress,
and five of our brothers were prominent members of the varsity squad. Al Rogero
starred throughout the season at the halfback post, Wilbur James filed his usual
stellar performance at guard in the annals of Florida football history, Jimmy
Nolan and Joe Hall cinched the right end position early in the season and both
were recognized throughout the South for their football brilliancy, and, finally,
Broward McClellan, diminitive but speedy fullback, won his glory and letter as
the games went by.
In freshman football, our pledge group was well represented with three
