34284 JUN 25 1947 PAGE 1 HISTORY OF CHAPTER FOR YEAR 19 TO 19 Leta Sept 6 June 47 At the end of the fall pledging period, Zeta Chapter had 83 active members and 58 pledges. We closed the spring quarter with 75 actives and 20 pledges. 25 men were intiated during the quarter. Most of the men we singled out for rushing during the fall were successfully pledged. Since we were considering such a large number, a committee of seven men was appointed to investigate the qualifications of each man and a unanimous vote from the seven was required before the committee reported a candidate's name to the chapter with a favorable recommendation. This committee functioned with a degree of success. We are planning to use a similiar arrangement for next fall's rushing though experience seems to indi- cate that five men would be a better number. In training our freshman we used as always a pledge master. It was decided, however, to invest in him more general powers than has been the practice here- tofore. In the past pledge masters have been greatly hampered by being unable to make even petty decisions without consulting the will of the Chapter. A point system was inaugurated with a minimum of 100 points required of each pledge per week. Points were aquired by doing general work about the house, attend- ing social activities of the University, and so on. The results of this system were gratifying and justify its continued use.
