JAN 17 1947 V-34284 PAGE 1 CHAPTER FOR YEAR 19 HISTORY OF 45 TO ZETA Sept June 46 Zeta chapter began the fall quarter with forty actives and approximately thirty pledges. At the end of the school year the active chapter had grown to seventy active members and fifteen pledges. The return of old members from the service and the pledging of a number of new men just returned has somewhat matured the atmosphere of the fraturnities activities. At the beginning of the academic year James Hobgood was S.M.C., James Ridgeway was Th.c., and James Barker was S.C. After the beginning of the winter quarter Hugh Hayes, William If. Warren and Phillip Barnhart served in the offices in the order named. The schoolastic standing of the chapter was good. One of our members, James Porter, was elected to Phi Kappa Phi for the exeellence of his academic standing. Porter, along with Tommy Landurm, were elected to the Engineering society. The chapter participated in all the university's inter- fraternity sports events. We were particularily proud of our first place in the softball tournament. It was a closely contested match. We also recieved second place in the tennis and basketball events. For several years now, the school bridge tournaments, for both sex, has been conducted in Zeta's chapter room. This year Warren Slagle was in charge of the tournaments. We placed first in our class. Our Chapter has come to be accepted almost without challenge in this field. One of the outstanding social events on the "Hill" this year was the election of the PiKA sweater girl. We were very fortunate in our advence publicity, and the affair was particularly sucessful, reflecting a considerable amount of valuable publicity in return at the fraturnity. Miss Sue Stubley was selected from the large number of very charming candidates. We later elected Miss Marforte Waldrep as our Dream Girl. The Founder's Day Banquet was a highlight of the winter season. and we were fortunate in having asspeaker Glenn Waldorf, head coach at Northwestern. In January we had a particularly sucessful formal, a return to a degree, of the pre war ones. We have had our troubles, of course. One problem we share in common with all frats these days is growing pains. We are taking in such large numbers of men, compaired to our total enrollment of a year or so ago, that there is a very natural
