HISTORY OF Zeta Chapter of Pi K. A.
CHAPTER FOR YEAR
1939 TO
19 40
Zeta Chapter began the school term 1939-40 with a completely re-
novated house on the outside, a new radio, and many improvements such
as chairs, papering of walls, and pictures. Brother Cook was responsi-
ble for the painting of the windows and wood work.
At the end of rush week the Fraternity had pledged twenty-six worthy
men, and has lost none because of scholastic deficiency. The twenty-five
members of the fraternity began the school term, with much interest and
activity and the pledges seemed readily to adjust themselves to the new
environment with the result that Zeta has been able to make a favorable
showing and affer keen competition in every competitive sevent on the
campus. In athletics the Faternity has gone to the finals in most of
the events. In basketball our team lost by a very small margin to the
team that won the championship, and in golf much ability was displayed,
and the team composed of pledges Boles and McDurmitt was defeated by a
very small margin.
Zeta Chapter this year for the first time in many years selected
a dream girl, Miss Norma Smith. She was presented to the Chapter at
their annual formal dance at the Cherokee Country Club. Brother Suttle
in charge of the Dance assisted by the Chapter made this year's ball
one of the main highlights of the University's social calendar. The
ball-room decorated with three thousand garnet and gold balloons arranged
in the shape of the shield and diamond was a very picturesque and im-
pressive sight, and one that will long be remembered by all who attended.
The dance received probably more publibity than any other social event
of the season and Zeta is indebted to Brother Rose, publicity manager
for his untiring efforts in this respect. Miss Frances Johnson, dream
girl of 1921 has written a special song for the Pi. K. A. Fraternity,
which song was played at the dance for the presentation of the 1940 dream
