Eric Kruger served in the U.S. Army in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom. A Deputy Brigade Commander, he was killed on November 2, 2006 by a roadside bomb while on patrol in Baghdad, Iraq. He was serving his third tour of duty in the Middle East, having served in Bahrain in 1997 and 1998 and Afghanistan before his assignment in Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Awards and an Army Commendation medal.
