P. Leroy Wallis served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant with the Company I, 305th Infantry, 77th Infantry Division, American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. He was reported missing possibly in action on August 13, 1918, during during the Oise-Aisne offensive near Bazoches, France. He was awarded the Silver Star Citation and Purple Heart.
