History of Alpha Eta Chapter for School Year 1963 to 1964
NATIONAL HISTORIAN COPY
HISTORY OF ALPHA ETA
CHAPTER FOR SCHOOL year
19 TO
TO
1964
DUE MAY 15TH
Alpha Eta began the fall with one of its most suc-
cessful rush programs in recent years. We publicized our first
open house on radio station WDVH and we were swamped by more
than 300 rushes. At the close of formal rush we had 40 new
pledges. We initiated 12 during the winter trimester.
During a 6-3-1 football season we cheered and
jeared the Gators. Even though our Homecoming house decorating
didn't walk off with any prizes, we had fun working on them.
We continued to sponsor our Tiny Mites midget
football team under coach Dick Hudson. By giving blood to the
medical conter, we also served our community.
Socially speaking, P1 Kappa Alpha had a most
admirable year. Our "Western Party" and "Christmas Party"
were the highlights of the fall trimester. During the winter
trimester we had the traditional "Hawaiian Party" and the
"Gambling Party". Annie Curtis was crowned Dreamgirl this
year. In her court were: Kay Ivey, Beverly Phegley, Suzanne
Brown, Russell Manes, Paula Craig and Andy Hudson. We also
had a joint weekend with the Signa Chis. On Friday afternoon
we had a social with three sororities. The next day we played
football with the Signa Chis and our dates. That night we
partied together with two bands in our house. We were very
proud of our social season.
Pikes were also prominent in campus activities.
Tom Still and Al Leonard served in the Legislative Council.
Jim Bogner handled the Honor Court publicity. We were all
proud that John Purcell was the Student Body Treasurer, one of
the five campus offices. Leader Wilson Atkinson was Vice
President of the Florida Union Board, and we were all proud of
him when he was tapped for Blue Key. Jim Inglis was editor of
the Pike dominated Florida Engineer Staff. Emphasizing di-
versified interests, Dick Combs was commander of the Gator
Guard, the Army ROTC drill team. The enthusiasm for activities
which Alpha Eta demonstrated this year is indicative of prom-
inonce of the fraternity and the calibre of men that compose it.
Many Pikes received honors this year. Jim Inglis,
AL Stoker, Cliff McKibbins and Ross Adams were members of Sigma
Tau, an engineering scholastic honorary. J1m Kirkland was nom-
inated for Phi Kappa Phi, another scholastic honorary. Dick
Combs, Billy Eaton and Thom O'Dell were inducted into the
Army ROTC honorary, Scabbard and Blade.
