History of Alpha Theta of Pi Kappa Alpha RECD. TTKA UPFE mt 23 September, 1960 - May, 1961 MAY 25 1961 Mid- September marked the beginning of the fall term of this school year , and it also marked the beginning of a big rebuilding job on the part of the men of Alpha Theta. The chapter had lost several key members due to graduation, and an extremely good rush program was immediately put into operation under rush chairman Roger Galloway. "Clean up 9 paint up, fix up" was the slogan of the working brothers and pledges of Alpha Theta as the chapter house was worked upon from the roof to the basement. During this week of concentrated effort on the part of all to improve the appearance of the chapter house, the feeling of team- work and the bonds of brotherhood grew constantly stronger. Later during the year, the back yard was expanded and leveled off. Rush week was the second week of school, and it was then that our hard work was rewarded as we acquired an outstanding pledge class of 38 men. We were extremely proud of our pledge class which was among the largest on campus. 16 men were initiated from this pledge class, and for the second semester, a pledge class of 14 men was obtained. Mrs. Sadie Henderson, our housemother, proved time and again during rush week just what a valuable asset she is to our chapter. Since rush week, our good fortune to have such a devoted housemother has been shown over and over as she has become an integral part of the inner workings of Alpha Theta since her arrival here in 1954. Sunday afternoon pledge parties with various sororties were arranged as often as possible to enable the pledges to become better acquainted with the girls on campus, and to improve their use of proper manners.
