We hosted the 1973 12A Convention in early
February. Our district covers Middle and West Ten-
nessee, and chapters present included Vanderbilt,
Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee State University, East
Tennessee University, and, of course, The University of
Tennessee at Knoxville.
Chancellor Dukes; Noel Friesh, Advisor to
Fraternities; and District President, Dan McGhee
spoke at the opening sessions. Representatives from
the county presented to us a proclamation declaring
Feb. 10, 1973, Pi Kappa Alpha Day in Knox County.
Committee meetings on chapter organization, finances,
and the new member program were followed by a
luncheon at the house. A rush seminar featured the Pi
Kappa Alpha National rush film. Steve Hoelscher,
Assistant Executive Director of Pi Kappa Alpha led the
seminar. Our own Robin Lyle was chosen as district
treasurer during the election of district officers.
Regional President Richard Ogle spoke at the final
banquet. A party at the house ended the convention.
The convention is scheduled to be held at Vanderbilt
next year. It enabled close neighbor chapters to get
together and discuss our problems and programs try to
help each other. We hope it will become an annual
event.
