Dear Sirs:
Enclosed is a historical sketch for Zeta Chapter
for the school year 1959 1960. This sketch has been
written from a critical point of view. It contains some material
that you may find questionable in the light of correspondence
previously carried out with Zeta concerning its affairs. It
can be pointed out, however, that some attempt was made on their
part to"cover up" some of the existing conditions in order to
"keep the peace" with the National Office.
The criticisms embodied in my report are not figments
of my imagination or "pipe dreams" thought up in the spare time
to embarass the Chapter. These are points that have been brought
up numerous times by Alums and by the thinking members of the
Chapter at the meeting and at private discussions. I feel that
these conditions should not be kept from the National Office;
for any national office of any organization, if it is more than
a mere figurehead, should be interested enough in its members
to take action to preserve the high standing of the organization.
Pi Kappa Alpha has a fine national record. It is for
this reason that I urge you of the National Office to take a
hand in the affairs of Zeta. This Chapter is in a crisis. It
is not a crisis of the first magnitude, but it could be. Our
housing situation is acute. We are pouring money down the
proverbial rat hole while action is being taken on the housing
project. This housing stalemate is demoralizing to the Chapter,
for we have had many setbacks and failures.
There is an element in the Chapter that would seek to
degrade the name of Pi Kappa Alpha through immoral conduct. A
warning has been issued to Zeta from the university administration
as well as our Alumni councelor and the national office. Despite
these warnings, things have not gotten better. Brother refuses
to bring the girl to whom he is pinned to our parties because of
the actionssof the Chapter. There is uncontrolled drinking at rush
parties, in my opinion an intolerable state of affairs. Also, two
actives and two pledges were suspended from the university because
of a "prank" which involved stealing furniture and fixtures from
a men's dormitory and then bringing the property to the Chapter
House where it was found by the Dean of Men.
I respectfully request that the National Office devote
some portion of their busy schedule to the helping of our Chapter
Fraternally yours,
Richard Hollow
